10 Things YOU Can Fix On Your Car And Save Loads of Money

Yes YOU Can Fix Things On Your Car And Save Loads of Money. Here’s 10 Things You’ll Find A Snap To Do!

If your like me you drive an older car. Mine is a 1997 Jeep Cherokee. Why do you ask, do I drive such an oldie-but-a-goodie vehicle? First, I don’t have a car payment, second old is beautiful because it’s simple and less complex than many vehicles being sold today. Compared to SUVs sold today, my 20 year old Jeep is considered “primitive”, not too many on board computers – in a word it’s simple to operate and pretty easy to fix when the need arises. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not like the “Jeep Whisperer”, able to listen to my truck and know everything that’s wrong. But I do have basic skills and therefore can fix certain items without fear of doing great harm to my Jeep or people around me. Here’s my list of simple things you can do to save money and have some fun working on your car or truck in the process.

1. Change your engine oil.

Most oil needs to be changed every 6 months or 6,000 miles (check your owners manual for frequency and type of oil needed according to your seasons and driving habits). For this you need a simple box wrench and a circular filter wrench, an old plastic tub to capture the old oil as it comes out of the crankcase, a funnel and your new oil (usually 4 to 5 quarts depending on the model -check your owners manual to know the exact amount required).
